MONGIL — a radiant monster-taming Action RPG that invites players to "embrace wonder." You ride in this colorful world with Cloud, Verna and devious kitty companions called Nyanners. Fun fact, you can have up to 3 characters in your party and switch them mid-match to perform combination skill attacks. Explore a varied world of elves & beastkin while collecting cute monsters to fill your Monster Codex. Billed as a “relaxing experience,” the multi-play game allows you to progress through story arcs at your own pace without competition, and is ideal for explorers who enjoy assembling custom party combinations — adventurers seeking their destiny.
Your primary aim is to locate, capture and expand your roster of cute monsters that will be used in battle; filling out the Monster Codex — more than 200 species with special abilities which you can utilize during combat. The battle uses a three on one real time triple tag team system. Alternate between three characters in an instant to string powerful Tag Skills together. Combine your roster to assemble a party that suits you. No PvP pressure. No rushing. Simply roam around, collect and fight at your pace.

At the core of MONGIL is its rather huge Monster Codex, encouraging players to hunt for tens — or even hundreds — of different monsters, tame them and collect them. With so much variety — every monster features its own personality along with functions — collecting them feels rewarding rather than checklist-like. Creature designs fall on the nice line of cute yet cool, appealing to a wide range of different sorts of players. Filling out the codex presents a strong incentive making continued exploration useful right up to your journey's conclusion.
Possibly the best thing about the gameplay is its unique implementation of a triple tag team battle system. The game allows players to control up to three characters simultaneously, switching between them in real-time as variables of combat change. Thus you have these dynamic, strategic battles where timing and team composition matters a great deal. The deep power held in the Tag Skills—powerful effects released through character combinations—adds major layers of complexity to party building. For such a system, the controls are surprisingly simple; novices can pick up and play in no time at all while veterans will be able to gem together complex character synergies along with timing their switches perfectly for an enemy sweep.
The game values players time and choices in a way that many modern mobile RPGs are unwilling to do. The game is very clear that to progress the story you should do it at your own pace, and there are no pressure of competition for racing or keeping up with anyone else. This philosophy of design — friendly to solo players creates a chill style where Exploration and narrative come before leaderboard grinding. The idea that players are free to play at their own pace makes this approach very refreshing.
Beyond this core three, MONGIL is anchored by a colorful cast of characters that guide you through its world. Cloud and Verna meet a variety of races, cultures, all adding depth to the setting; even if it is mostly clearing the map by investigating where others don't seem to go The enigmatic Nyanners exists as a compelling narrative hook that pulls the player into wanting to know what secrets this world holds, and where they'll end up with their party. It adds a level of character-driven storytelling that lifts the experience above other monster-collection games with little narrative heft.
This combat genre still gets itself on the business casual side and action-oriented players although the controls are intuitive enough for anyone to enjoy, real-time switching and tag skill combinations offer a mechanical intricacy that will keep even seasoned players engaged with it. Pulling off a well-timed tag switch to avoid a boss attack or following in one deadly blow with another is thrilling, providing genuinely memorable gameplay beats that keep combat fresh over the long campaign.
However, MONGIL does have one real flaw and that comes in the form of lacking a whole endgame content once the final quest wraps up. The discovery journey with Cloud, Verna and Nyanners is a fun one to take albeit the post campaign experience does not offer much in terms of long term engagement.
All in all, MONGIL is an adorable little monster-taming JRPG with surprisingly simple but satisfying combat, cute creature-collecting and a uniquely gentle approach to levels. But probably its biggest con is that endgame content currently seems sparse and it saturates quickly for players wanting an experience with longevity spanning well past the main story.
